BraveGen’s 2024 milestones and what they mean for the future
The end of the year is the perfect moment to pause and appreciate what we have achieved—and the exciting path ahead.
The best analogy is like planting a tree today and watching it grow into something bigger and stronger tomorrow, in the last few years we've laid the roots for lasting change in sustainability.
In early 2024, we stepped into a bold new identity from ESP to BraveGen. With our eyes on integrating sustainability into every organisation’s performance, we’ve been turning big ideas into everyday action.
We have launched new products and actively expanded into the Australian market while achieving major industry milestones.
Here’s a look at the highlights that defined BraveGen’s year and helped us strengthen our position as a leader in sustainability solutions.
Supporting emission reduction across the NZX 50.
One of the remarkable achievements of 2024 has been working with 36% of the organisations in the NZX 50. That’s a milestone we’re incredibly proud of and underscores BraveGen’s growing prominence in the corporate sustainability space.
It’s proof that when it comes to navigating sustainability reporting and streamlining auditing, the biggest players know where to turn.
With tools and expertise to help drive results, BraveGen continues to empower organisations to meet their sustainability targets. An excellent example is our clients Spark NZ and Oceania, who were recognised with the Deloitte Top 200 Sustainability Leadership Award in the sustainability category.
Record emissions reductions and savings.
Our goal has always been to help our clients achieve their sustainability targets, but at the heart of it, we’re working towards something even bigger: reaching Net Zero and making the planet a better place for future generations. It’s all about real impact.
Here’s the impact we’re most excited about: 86 million kg of CO2-e avoided and $118 million in utility cost savings for our clients. That’s not just numbers—it’s cleaner air, stronger bottom lines, and a giant leap toward Net Zero.
These milestones are a powerful reminder of how technology and data-driven insights can drive meaningful sustainability efforts.
Balancing carbon accounting and energy management.
We are also really pleased with how BraveGen’s dual-product capability in energy management and carbon emissions is starting to play out in a way that customers get increased value.
For organisations with large energy footprints, this dual-product proposition offers immense benefits.
With scope 2 emissions making up a significant part of large asset owner's footprint, BraveGen provides the data needed to focus on key areas of the built environment, helping reduce emissions.
From the property sector to airports and universities, more and more large asset owners are adopting this approach.
Additionally, flexible reporting has proven to be a major strength. Beyond ease of reporting, it encompasses robust data collection, categorisation, and comprehensive emissions factor management.
Key features
Features like the one-click report output and BraveGen’s Net Zero Navigator are particularly popular.
The integration of AI in energy management has made significant leaps forward, enhancing analytics and enabling smarter energy decisions.
Product innovations: BraveGen Utility 2.0.
Another great moment to remember was the launch of the second iteration of BraveGen Utility in mid-2024. This new version introduced a range of advanced capabilities designed to optimise building performance, reduce costs, and minimise emissions.
With features like dynamic reporting, innovative analytics, and AI-driven fault detection, the updated product has been a game-changer for clients seeking to improve energy efficiency and sustainability outcomes.
Expanding footprint in Australia.
This year marked BraveGen’s entry into the Australian market and it comes with its own set of challenges.
Establishing the BraveGen brand in Australia meant adapting to local regulations and gaining a deep understanding of the country’s unique sustainability landscape, especially with new frameworks such as ASRS.
However, for over a decade, we've been working with Australian clients and leveraging Australian data, so this isn’t new territory.
Our longstanding relationships with companies in the Trans-Tasman region have helped us build strong connections across Australia, making our continued expansion a natural next step.
We’re proud to share that BraveGen has already accomplished key wins, implementing our first utility projects with Colliers and the University of Technology Sydney.
Recognition as the leading NABERSNZ assessor.
We’re back on top! In 2024, BraveGen reclaimed the #1 spot as NABERSNZ’s leading assessor.
The company’s commitment to driving energy efficiency is evident in the success of our clients, who continue to set new benchmarks in sustainability. A notable example is the Mercury Building at 33 Broadway, Newmarket, Auckland, which recently earned a 5-star NABERSNZ energy rating.
By providing tailored assessments and actionable insights, BraveGen empowers businesses to optimise their energy usage, reduce emissions, and create long-term value.
As the demand for sustainability solutions grows, we remain focused on leading the way in energy performance and supporting New Zealand’s transition to a low-carbon future.
Team growth and collaboration.
You’ve probably heard the saying, "No one achieves greatness alone." Starting the year with just 36 team members, we are now 50 collaborators strong across New Zealand and Australia.
A great team is the backbone of any successful organisation, and BraveGen’s growth in 2024 is a testament to this.
The emphasis on collaboration—both internally and with clients—has been key to overcoming challenges and driving progress.
To strengthen this, we expanded our customer service and consulting teams to offer clients more comprehensive services. These include materiality assessments, target setting, and emissions reduction planning.
This growth in consulting services complements the platform’s capabilities, allowing clients to engage more deeply with their sustainability strategies and move seamlessly from planning to actionable outcomes.
What 2025 holds.
It’s natural to wonder what 2025 holds. But instead of waiting for the future to unfold, BraveGen has been proactive in preparing for what’s ahead, particularly the evolving regulatory landscape in New Zealand and Australia.
The rebrand from ESP to BraveGen reflects our commitment to inspire change and lead the way in sustainability.
As our name suggests, "Brave Generation," we’re here to spark bold actions for a better future.
We’re proud to be part of the broader sustainability movement, celebrating initiatives like the Green Building Council’s (GBC) programs. As a key partner, BraveGen has helped advance sustainable building standards, working together to create more efficient spaces.
We’re also preparing for the second year of reporting under the CRD framework in New Zealand, where we’ve been supporting our clients since its inception, and for the launch of the ASRS framework in Australia, where we’re ready to help Australian companies navigate the new requirements starting in 2025.
The future of sustainability starts now, and we’re ready to lead the charge. Let’s tackle tomorrow’s challenges together—less admin, more action, and greater impact. Ready to join us?
